The Video Game Oscars are coming! In addition to rewarding the best titles of the year, the awards ceremony 2021 Game Awards will give us a glimpse of what lies ahead in 2022 and beyond!

It is therefore time to take stock of the rumors around the announcements that could be made during the show.

The latest announcements already confirmed (Updated from 7/12 at 10 a.m.)

The long-awaited deadline is getting dangerously close and many clues come to formalize the presence of some games at the Game Awards 2021. Starting with ARC Raiders, the first title developed by Embark Studios. This structure is headed by Patrick Söderlund, the former executive vice-president of Electronic Arts.

On the other hand, it's Sonic Frontiers that should be there, as evidenced by a tweet from Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley. We will also find Steelrising, a new action-RPG created by the Spanish studio Spiders (Greedfall). The experience carried out under Unreal Engine 5 entitled The Matrix Awakens will also be fully revealed during the ceremony. Microsoft plans to announce four new games that will land on launch day in Xbox Game Pass PC.

Last (skinny) twist, Destiny 2 will come to present its next expansion The Witch Queen via a new trailer. The game Suicide Squad signed Rocksteady (Batman Arkham) will also be there. Outside of the world of video games, the live-action Halo series will take advantage of the Game Awards stage to reveal its first trailer. The movie Sonic: The Hedgehog 2 will also release its trailer.

You know all about the latest updates regarding The Game Awards 2021. This section of the article will be updated as needed in the coming hours.

A busy and surprising program

At the time of writing these lines, the rumors of the corridors about the Game Awards 2021 are few. The producer of the ceremony Geoff Keighley was content to specify that between 40 and 50 games will benefit from media exposure during the show. Among them, more than a dozen have not yet been made official in the eyes of the world. Thus, surprises are indeed to be expected.

But unlike previous editions, teasing is almost non-existent. The big insiders in the field have remained surprisingly silent and there is almost nothing concrete to put in their mouths. This obviously does not prevent the flowering of more or less convoluted rumors on the forums. And as what will follow is speculation, we encourage you to grab your best tweezers.

Two really safe announcements?

Let's start with a project that has been floating around the web for several weeks. This is the remake of Chrono Cross, an RPG launched in 1998 in Japan on PlayStation. This redesign could be exclusive to the PS5 as indicated by the Gematsu site. It remains to be seen whether it is a simple remastering or something more ambitious. But sources almost all corroborate on an announcement during The Game Awards 2021.

Now make way for the next Bioshock that has made headlines in recent days. We have known for some time that a new opus is in the works, but 2K Games remains silent as a carp about it. The title Bioshock: Isolation is notably mentioned by a rather mysterious source, and it is assumed that the game would run under Unreal Engine 5. To calm our enthusiasm, recent rumors point rather in the direction of a presentation during the first quarter of 2022. To be continued…

Less credible ads?

From forums like 4Chan to obscure Twitter accounts, other hypothetical announcements are making headlines right now. This ranges from a trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, to a console version of World of Warcraft, to a remaster of the original Mirror's Edge. Published by Electronic Arts, the latter is perhaps the project that seems the most credible. Indeed, the American publisher often takes advantage of the Game Awards scene to present its future games. This was the case with Dragon Age 4 or even for the next Mass Effect.

As for the rest, hard to believe for the moment. The MMO from Blizzard Entertainment would have been spotted on the Xbox store under the name World of Warcraft: Complete Edition with a release date set for December 9, 2021… the day of the Game Awards. But again, nothing very concrete. We also hear about a Prey 2: Neuroshock being developed by Arkane Austin. Except that the studio is already at work on Redfall which will land next summer. Once again, the information does not seem very reliable to us.

As for the final rumors of the corridors to be wary of, Forbes journalist Garrett Atkins casts doubt on the possible presence of the Fable reboot at the Game Awards.

2022 in the spotlight

Among the games already known to the general public, there will undoubtedly be plenty to do. We thus imagine a small trailer for Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West and/or Forspoken. We could even be tempted to bet on the presence of Hellblade 2 which was unveiled during the Game Awards 2019. What is certain is that several blockbusters will show up during the ceremony.

Finally, Geoff Keighley also appreciates the independent scene. A love that should lead to the announcement of games that are a little more original and unexpected. It is quite logically impossible to speculate on this category at this time. In short, the Game Awards 2021 have surprises in store for us, but we will have to wait a few days before we can discover them. See you on the night of December 9 to 10!
