Since its announcement in September 2020 during the PlayStation 5 Showcase, Final Fantasy XVI did not show up again. However, if we are to believe the latest statements from Square Enix, development is progressing well and an important step has been taken.
And if no release date has yet been announced, the launch could ultimately take place quite “quickly”.

An epic already written
When it became official last year, Final Fantasy XVI was announced as a PS5 console exclusive with the possibility of seeing the game land on PC. However, Square Enix had not deigned to communicate a release window for its JRPG… And after the stormy development of the fifteenth episode, the fans fear having to wait for several years. Fortunately, that shouldn't be the case.
Because if we believe a recent statement from Naoki Yoshida (the game's producer), the main story of Final Fantasy XVI is already complete. The title will transport us to the lands of Valisthea and there we will control Clive Rosfield, the eldest son of the Archduke of Rosalia. Struck by tragedy, the hero of this adventure will seek revenge on the primordial Ifrit.

A date soon to be announced?
In addition to the scenario, we also learned during the Tokyo Games Show that the side quests, but also the character models are almost complete. Currently, the development teams are busy improving the overall quality of the game. But no need to rejoice in haste since the finalization of the project should take some time.
If Final Fantasy XVI is so awaited by players, it is also because it should be decidedly more mature than the previous games. Also, Naoki Yoshida is an emblematic figure of Square Enix since he is at the origin of the revival of the MMO Final Fantasy XIV. There is reason to be optimistic about the final quality of the next episode.
