Announced last September during the second event dedicated to the PS5, Final Fantasy XVI has since remained in the shadows. But Square Enix has finally given some news about this very ambitious opus.

The Final Fantasy saga will take a decidedly more mature turn with its sixteenth episode. Indeed, the trailer released last year hinted at a darker story and fairly bloody battles. A welcome change for the franchise after a quality but ultimately quite forgettable Final Fantasy XV.

Concrete before the end of the year?

According to Square Enix's official website, Final Fantasy XVI was supposed to be unveiled in more depth in 2021. But nothing is less certain… During a live around the MMO Final Fantasy XIV, producer Naoki Yoshida returned to the design of the next opus. According to him, the writing of the screenplay is completely finished and the recordings of the last voices for the English dub are taking place at this time. He adds that development is difficult because teams want to achieve a high level of quality.

Unfortunately, still according to Yoshida, Final Fantasy XVI will not be present at the Tokyo Game Show which will be held from September 30 to October 3, the teams wishing to take their time in order to show content that will manage to dazzle fans. Remember that the title will be released first on PS5 on a date still unknown.
