Made official last September during the PlayStation 5 Showcase, Final Fantasy XVI was briefly talked about at the start of the week. This is an opportunity to learn a little more about the direction taken by the next installment of this legendary saga.

Square Enix and Sony Interactive Entertainment have teamed up to offer Final Fantasy XVI as a temporary exclusive on PS5 on the console side (the game is also expected on PC). For the moment, we have few elements in hand except that the development could already be at a fairly advanced stage.

More action than RPG?

During a discussion on Japanese radio that revolved around Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida spoke briefly about the sixteenth installment. The latter's producer said the game will be action-oriented. Moreover, the creative team has made a lot of effort to make it more accessible to neophytes of the genre. This is not necessarily a surprise since an assumed turn towards more explosive combat has already taken place for several episodes.

Finally, Yoshida clarified that a lot of work is being done on the narration. As the first trailer suggested, Final Fantasy XVI will be much more mature than its predecessors. It is even the first opus of the franchise to be classified PEGI 18. The release period is not yet known.
