April 19, Portal 2 will blow out its 10 candles. And, no longer supporting the interminable wait that still separates us from a hypothetical sequel, a group of fans is working to offer Valve's game a brand new campaign.

Called Desolation, this mod for Portal 2 will make you embody Diana Mendez, an Aperture guinea pig who has benefited from cybernetic augmentations including, in particular, the ARM arm (Antebrachial Relativity Manipulator) which replaces the Portal Gun here.

New environments on the program

Located a few hundred years after the events of Portal 2, Desolation takes place of course in the premises of Aperture Science, whose new threat comes to disturb the sleep.

Described as perilous, the quest in which Diana Mendez embarks will allow, we are told, to shed light on the mysterious past of Aperture, but also on her own.

We'll occasionally visit new test chambers, some of which will take us into style caverns that are supposed to connect the old Aperture premises with the more modern Enrichment Center.

A massive mod

If the term "mod" can give the idea of adding modest content, it appears here euphemistic. The Emberspark Games team (composed of modding veterans) talks about a real single-player campaign with 30 test chambers for a calculated lifespan of around 4 hours.

Lots of fun, especially since Desolation will be made available to the community for free.

Far from recycling what Valve has already done very well on Portal and Portal 2, Desolation therefore has new levels, but also a dynamic soundtrack to accompany the resolution of the puzzles. Compositions that can already be discovered on the SoundCloud page of their author Roy Berardo.

In development for two years, Desolation does not yet have a release date.
