Epic Games split a report returning to the results of theEpic Games Store in 2021, mainly driven by the free games policy over the year.

According to this report, Steam's rival platform would have recorded an impressive total of 2021 million users in 194, which is 34 million more users than in 2020.

A rather Epic ascent

If the Epic Games Store has experienced such a boom since its deployment four years ago, it is in particular thanks to Fortnite, temporary exclusives like Metro Exodus, but above all its free games policy.

In 2021, the platform indeed offered no less than 89 games, including very big titles like Control, Prey or even the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. A combined value of 1 euros which would have represented in all the astronomical figure of 901 million games recovered in one year.

A policy that has therefore paid off for Epic, which recorded during periods of shock offers peaks of active users in game, all platforms combined, having peaked at 31,1 million, for a peak of users in line having meanwhile reached 13,2 million.

As a reminder, at the start of the year, Steam reached a peak of active users of more than 28 million, while Valve's platform has been present on the PC market exclusively since 2003. The Epic Games Store can therefore satisfied with the progress made in four years. It also continues to refine itself with features such as successes or the possibility of adding several games to your basket.

It remains to be seen if the year 2022 will be such a good year for the Epic Games platform, and what surprises it has in store for us in terms of free games.
