Epic Games Store: the (impressive) number of accounts revealed

Launched at the end of 2018, theEpic Games Store has continued to gain in popularity over time, to the point of very quickly establishing itself as a serious competitor to Steam. And it is with great pride that Epic Games has just announced the number of accounts created on its platform.

More than three years after its launch, the Epic Games platform has just reached a nice and impressive level.

500 million Epic Games Store accounts

At the origin of the famous Unreal Engine or the Fortnite phenomenon, for several years Epic Games has played a leading role in the video game industry. In December 2018, the publisher in turn wanted to launch into online game stores, thus testing the waters hitherto largely dominated by Valve. Supplying its Store considerably with new titles and regularly signing numerous partnerships, Epic Games now has a solid base of players on its platform. A platform that now has more than 500 million accounts!

Indeed, Epic Games has just announced it: no less than half a billion accounts have been created on its own platform. In the space of three years, this is undeniably a good performance for the publisher, although it is a question here of the number of accounts created and not the number of active users. As a reminder, in May 2020, GTA V was offered for free on the Epic Games Store. The title generated a strong increase in attendance on the platform on this occasion, attracting no less than 7 million players in the space of a few days.

Driven by the popularity of its games (Fortnite, Rocket League) and the gradual evolution of its offer (one title per week is offered to users), the platform probably has a bright future ahead of it, although it will still have to impose in time before reaching the level of popularity of Steam, its main competitor.
