Finally, EA no longer thinks that NFT are the future of video games. The publisher known for its flagship licenses like FIFA, Battlefield ou Les Sims confidently expressed interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to shareholders last November.

No doubt faced with the reluctance of players and the outcry suffered by its colleagues who have tried it, in particular Ubisoft or Team17 more recently, EA is changing the disc.

EA and NFTs will have to wait

In his latest investor conference, Andrew Wilson, CEO. from the American firm, explains that it does not want to rush headlong into blockchain trends, including pay-to-earn and NFT games. For him, the investment of such technologies in gaming is comparable to that of 3D, AR and VR in their time, and it is advisable to be interested in it, but with parsimony. “What we want is to offer the best possible experience to the players. We will evaluate this possibility over time, but at the moment we are strongly against blockchain and NFTs. »

Nevertheless, since it is a trend that interests shareholders, Wilson does not fail to leave the door open by recalling that “collectibles” remain a central part of EA games, both in the real world and in virtual ones. “It will be an important part of EA's future, in one way or another. It remains to be seen whether it will be with NFTs or blockchain,” he concluded.
