While it was a big PlayStation Showcase announcement, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ( KOTOR) showed only a little… So much so that we did not know which companies could potentially be involved in the project.

The brief teaser of this remake will ultimately not have taught us much. We just know that the Aspyr studio is in charge of the development. A logical choice since this same firm had also taken care of the ports of several other opuses of the Star Wars license as with the two Jedi Knight on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Two big firms on the sidelines

But when it debuted in 2003, the original version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was published by Electronic Arts and developed by Bioware. Thus, producer and journalist Geoff Keighley asked the American publisher about the involvement of the two companies in this remake. And the press release says it all.

“We are proud of our long-standing collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, which will continue for years to come. Our talented teams have created some of the most successful games in Star Wars franchise history, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Star Wars : Squadrons. We love Star Wars and look forward to creating even more exciting experiences for players. »

In short, this is called drowning the fish to avoid admitting that EA and Bioware have nothing to do with this new project. The KOTOR remake will be released as a temporary exclusive on PS5.
