Knowledgeable insider Tom Henderson cracked on Xfire of an article stating that the manifest failure of Battlefield 2042 forced Electronic Arts to revise its plans for the license FPS.

Initially planned to be “the ultimate Battlefield episode”, Battlefield 2042 finally appears to be relegated to a lesson in humility on which to lay better foundations for a next opus already in production.

Learning lessons from the future past

Five months after its release, the latest addition to the iconic Battlefield license seems to have been swept away by advanced tornadoes as a flagship feature. While DICE is still striving to patch its game by adding highly requested features far too late and the first season has therefore suffered a heavy postponement, Electronic Arts seems to be ready to throw in the towel.

In any case, this is what Tom Henderson indicates by reporting comments from sources close to DICE. According to him, a new opus is already in development, with the aim of learning the bitter lessons of Battlefield 2042.

At the head of the errors not to reproduce, maps with 128 players far too large, which must also be reduced in their scale on this title. Second point which is far from having been unanimous with the players: the integration of a hero shooter mechanism with Homeless people endowed with unique skills, which brought a certain imbalance.

Despite this new opus, Battlefield 2042 must still receive at least four new specialists and Battle Passes, as well as a new map, if all goes well this summer. But a large part of the Swedish team at DICE has already been allocated to the development of the continuation of the franchise. The future of Battlefield 2042 is therefore more uncertain than ever.
