It is a ritual that has until now been set in stone. Every year for more than 15 years, a new Call of Duty enters. But recent events around the takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft could change that.

We had a lot of information to digest this week following this $68 billion acquisition. Regarding Call of Duty, the head of Microsoft Gaming clarified his desire to see the license continue on PlayStation consoles. But it could be that the FPS license will be more discreet in the years to come.



Less frequent but better Call ofs?

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said Call of Duty may drop its schedule of releasing one new installment per year. According to these latest rumors, the idea had already been circulating for a while within the Activision teams, but the publisher never dared to materialize it. Some employees of the American firm would hope that the takeover by Microsoft would allow this new schedule to be put in place.


Whether critically or purely commercially, Call of Duty: Vanguard's performance disappointed Activision. More spaced outings could thus make it possible to relaunch the machine by dwelling longer on the quality of each opus. To be continued…
