If, last week, Xbox publicly expressed its desire to release the next Call of Duty on the PlayStation consoles, until now we didn't know anything about the episodes concerned…

The takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft initially suggested that the Call of Duty saga was about to become totally exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem. However, we quickly learned of the existence of contractual agreements which could well oblige the American manufacturer to release its next FPS on PlayStation.

Sony safe for two years?

Journalist Jason Schreier was likely able to contact a source close to the case for further information. Thus, PlayStation players should be able to play at least the next three Call of Duty. The list includes the Modern Warfare 2 episode which will land this year, the Treyarch opus (presumably a new Black Ops) scheduled for 2023 and even Warzone 2 which will also be released next year.

As for Call of Duty Warzone 2, insider Tom Henderson says it will only launch on current-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) as well as PC. It will be a brand new game and not a simple evolution or update of Call of Duty Warzone.
