Bethesda is definitely drawing a line under its launcher

Launchers are relatively numerous on PC. Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Rockstar Games or Bethesda Softworks all offer their own software. But this will soon no longer be the case for the publisher behind Fallout et The Elder Scrolls.

It's a rather unexpected end clap that just happened. Indeed, the Bethesda.net launcher will soon disappear. The American publisher plans to migrate all of its services to Steam this year. The launcher will be permanently offline from May 2022. And there will be manipulations to do to avoid losing data during this big move.

A tedious process?

So, starting in April, users will have the option to migrate their Bethesda.net games to Steam. All purchased titles will be available for free download from Valve's store. In some cases, a manual copy will be required, and backups may be lost. The publisher will provide more information on manual transfers in the near future. Fortunately, most should be done automatically.

It is important to clarify that the Bethesda.net service will not be discontinued. Only the launcher is affected by the closure. Finally, the entire wallet (atoms for Fallout 76, crowns for The Elder Scrolls Online…) will also be transferred to Steam. Fallout 76 players are even entitled to their own FAQ. Friends lists will also be preserved on compatible games. Full details will be made public in April.
