Amazon Games reacts to RTX 3090 brick guesses on New World

Amazon spoke yesterday about the blown graphics card issues experienced by EVGA-branded RTX 3090 owners during the closed beta of N. The American company wants to reassure players by emphasizing the exceptional nature of this kind of concern.

A patch was immediately deployed on the game to calm things down.

    An “exceptional” problem

The closed beta of New World, Amazon's highly anticipated MMO, has suffered since its launch from bad press linked to two problems: the wait time to enter a server (coming from a company known for its ability to manage huge servers, it can be a task) and the RTX 3090 graphics cards which burn out from the game menu. The American giant communicated publicly on this last point yesterday to reassure the players who have launched themselves by the hundreds of thousands into the beta:

“New World makes standard Direct X calls provided by the Windows API. We saw no indication of any widespread issues with the 3090, either during the beta or our many months of alpha testing. New World Closed Beta is safe to use. To reassure our players, we will be deploying a patch today that limits the number of frames per second in the menu”.

That is said, hoping that this limits the damage for the owners of these graphics cards costing more than €2.

    EVGA is investigating

This serious problem encountered by players is not taken lightly by the American designer of graphics cards EVGA, which announced that it had started internal investigations to determine what was wrong. It is true that one of the most powerful graphics cards in the world which overheats and simply burns out the menu of a less demanding game than many others (Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus...), we can easily imagine that this could cause the teams in charge of the beast to panic.

Given the price of these cards and the low number of people affected, EVGA announced to PCWorld that the RTX 3090 FTW3 that were bricked on the New World beta can be changed for free. But we will have to be patient: with the catastrophic state of GPU stocks in the world due to the shortage of components, the brand warns that a change of graphics card will take a lot of time.
