According to Digital Foundry, the new PS5 model is no worse than the old one

A few days ago, Sony launched the marketing of a new model for its PS5. Of course, this is only a small revision without major changes for players. But that did not prevent a controversy from emerging...

Thus, some YouTubers and other Internet users on social networks had pointed out the presence of a smaller heat sink, thus causing greater heating.

A lot of noise…

To clear all of this up, YouTube channel Digital Foundry did an in-depth review of this “new” PS5. At the end of August, videographer Austin Evans claimed that this copy was much worse than the one released in November. His main criticism was aimed in particular at the more cramped cooling system of the machine bearing the reference CFI-1100. The main interested party indicated that the PS5 emitted 3°C more than the model marketed at launch.

But, if we are to believe the specialists at Digital Foundry, the result is far from being alarming… Quite the contrary! Because in the end, the differences between these two PS5 seem anecdotal. Yes, the heatsink is smaller, but Sony has made other adjustments, such as the motherboard.

…for not much!

Thus, Digital Foundry explains that the temperatures have been significantly improved on the voltage regulators but also on the memory. In some cases, the heat may be more intense (like on the processor) and in others less. However, there is currently no evidence that this can negatively impact the performance of the PS5.

There has certainly been some sort of simplification of the cooling system with higher temperatures in places, but that doesn't make it a "worse or better" version than the one sold at launch. To conclude, the experience of the players will not be impacted at all for the bad or the good. In short, nothing to report!
