Unreal Engine 5: an engine that impresses

It's been almost two years since the Unreal Engine 5 first revealed itself to us through an impressive technical demo. If we have since learned that Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 or STALKER 2 will benefit from the latest engine from Epic Games, players were able to have a first glimpse of the engine thanks to the demo The Matrix Awakens, launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S at the very end of last year.

However, the demo that interests us today was designed by an artist named Daniel Martinger, who then took on the task of completely modeling a photorealistic workshop. The demo offers impressive rendering and lighting and uses Path Tracing technology. Here is what the artist said about the development of this project:

“I created everything from scratch, no photos are used except for the rusty metal texture on the tool wall and the floor texture (they're from Quixel). I used Zbrush, Substance Painter and Maya for the assets and tiling textures. »

Obviously, it is worth remembering that this demo is not representative of what is currently possible in a full game, especially on consoles. On the other hand, it allows to appreciate the extent of the capacities of the Unreal Engine 5 and the creative freedom which it grants to the most talented artists.
