Microsoft is continuing its efforts to improve its presence in the Japanese archipelago. The Xbox brand has already reserved its (virtual) location at the Tokyo Game Show, which will be held from September 30 to October 3 – and promises announcements.
Last year, Microsoft had already taken advantage of the event to detail the launch of its Xbox Series X | S in Japan, and to highlight the update of Flight Simulator dedicated to the country. What will it be this year?

A presence to strengthen in Japan
Historically, Xbox has struggled to break into Japan. Already difficult to sell in the West, the brand has sold only 0,3% of its Xbox One (competitor of the PS4) in the country since its launch in 2014. A situation described as "unacceptable" by Phil Spencer, who announced last year wanting to do "a much better job" with its next-gen consoles.
But for that, we will have to strengthen a catalog that is still quite shy in terms of games likely to change the trend. And that's precisely why the promise of new announcements during the TGS arouses our curiosity. Especially when talking about a 50 minute conference.
We don't yet have a clue what Microsoft has in store for the event. The company has, in fact, owned Tango Gameworks since it acquired Bethesda last March, but the latter is hard at work on Ghostwire: Tokyo, which will be a temporary PlayStation 5 exclusive.
What to resurrect the rumors of takeover of SEGA by Microsoft? Not so fast. If the idea has spread like wildfire in recent months, it has absolutely no foundation; the video games branch of SEGA being the activity of the company which is doing the best since the start of the pandemic.
