Xbox Series controller: March update partially fixes disconnection issues

Some Xbox Series Wireless Controllers are prone to responsiveness issues. Microsoft is aware of this and is working on a solution.

Update 12/03:

On the occasion of the March update, which notably brings the option of activating FPS Boost and Auto HDR on backward compatible games, Microsoft has released an undisclosed patch.

The Xbox Series Wireless Controllers disconnect issue has been known for nearly four months, and following an announcement last week, the company was finally quick enough to roll out a fix.

Whether the American giant kept this change secret in the blog post dedicated to the March update, however, remains a mystery. Still, the Xbox Series wireless controller should now be less prone to inadvertent disconnections.

Hardware problems persist, and we hope that Microsoft will address this issue as quickly.

This responsiveness issue consists of buttons not responding to user actions. It affects the use of the controller connected to the Xbox Series X | S as much as to a PC. If Microsoft is working on a solution deployed in the more or less near future, this is not the only concern of these new controllers.

A problem soon solved...

Some users are complaining about button responsiveness on the new Xbox Wireless Controller. Thus, the directional pad or the now well-known buttons A, B, X and Y can sometimes be inert during their use.

Microsoft is well aware of this very annoying problem and promises to work on a solution, without being able to say when it will be implemented and in what form. Given that the problem occurs as much when the controller is connected to a console as to a PC, a software update seems unlikely. We could therefore rather rely on a redesign of its design.

However, it is unknown whether affected consumers will be able to obtain repairs at no additional cost or without having to buy a new controller. In the meantime, those experiencing this problem have no choice but to return the defective controller for repair, to buy another one, at the risk of encountering the same problem, or to wait for the solution promised by Microsoft.

… but other problems persist

If the fact that Microsoft is working on this problem is good news, others are to be deplored for the new Xbox controller. Like the DualSense of the PS5 or the Joy-Con of the Nintendo Switch, the Xbox Series wireless controller is also affected by the phenomenon of drift. If its situation is less noise, the Xbox controller is just as much the cost of justice as its sisters, at least in the United States.

Another problem encountered on the Xbox Series wireless controller: it sometimes happens that it is completely inert, even though it is well connected to an Xbox Series. However, there is a temporary solution, by remaining pressed on the start button of the console in order to reestablish its connection with the controller.

Pending potential solutions to all these issues affecting its new wireless controller, Microsoft invites affected users to contact Xbox Support for further assistance.
