Blizzard seems to have learned the stinging lesson of the expansion Battle for Azeroth, as an 18-year-old conflict between the Horde and the Alliance is about to be a thing of the past.

A first step in this direction was made last week with the announcement of an upcoming opening to inter-faction bodies.

Bury the hatchet

For almost 20 years a source of conflict between two communities that the game did everything to separate, the split between the Horde and the Alliance should in the future be much more blurred. This is in any case what indicated in an interview Ion Hazzikostas, Director of World of Warcraft, by affirming that there will never again be an extension centered on the War of the Factions.

Blizzard's behemoth MMO had indeed recorded severe losses in terms of players on the Battle for Azeroth expansion, and the American giant seems to be trying to prevent the phenomenon from repeating itself. Even in Shadowlands, the shadow of the Faction War was still present, to the detriment of the coherence of the scenario of this extension.

According to Ion Hazzikostas, this attenuation of the difference between Horde and Alliance will have to be done gradually so as not to overload the game. Don't imagine being able to level up your human character in the starting zones of the Horde yet. However, a cross-faction guild system may be coming soon.

For the health of World of Warcraft, it seems time for Blizzard to finally bury the hatchet. Time will tell if this decision paid off or not. This and of course Microsoft's historic takeover of Activision Blizzard.
