Ubisoft soon to be acquired? The editor does not close the door

Le takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft had the effect of a bomb in the gaming galaxy. A repurchase which, as a reminder, amounts to nearly 70 billion dollars. Shortly after, it was the turn of Sony to formalize the acquisition of the Bungie studio, after a salvo of takeovers carried out in 2021. And if nothing is yet recorded, Ubisoft claims not to close the door to a possible acquisition…

As rumors intensified around a potential takeover of Ubisoft in the future, the publisher itself officially spoke on the subject.

Ubisoft potentially acquired?

Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs, Rayman… In addition to being numerous, the licenses held by Ubisoft are particularly popular with players. For several months now, rumors have suggested that a merger could take place between the Spanish company and the American giant, Microsoft. Rumors that have gained more momentum since the formalization of the takeover of Activision Blizzard by the latter.

But during a conference call, Yves Guillemot, who is none other than the boss of Ubisoft, said that if the studio could maintain its independence, he would study any takeover offer, as Daniel Ahmad reports on Twitter. The latter then specifies that it was an answer to a question that was asked to him during the call and not a subject launched by Yves Guillemot himself.

If the context wants to be different today, the position of the publisher on the question of independence inevitably reminds us of the not so distant time when Vivendi wanted to seize it. But after a long battle, the studio finally managed to maintain its independence.
