Ubisoft: job offers suggest a new project in the form of an MMO

While the Spanish giant already has many projects in the pipeline, a list of job offers on the Ubisoft site suggests the gestation of an MMO.

We can indeed see 26 new positions of high importance to be filled for an “unadvertised game”. Most of these offerings mention a vast procedural world populated by a host of non-player characters, as well as a desire to create more advanced AI.

Generation of an MMO in progress?

In the 26 positions to be filled, some stand out more and agree quite well with what makes the salt of an MMO. For example, we have a job posting requiring the candidate to populate a substantial game with NPCs who can "behave differently in different encounters."

Shortly before being withdrawn because no doubt completed, an offer was for a senior technical artist. In it, among the responsibilities was the need to create an experience with procedurally generated content.

Finally, an offer for a programmer lists many responsibilities that are central to an MMO. There is indeed mention of “advanced online technology”, as well as an emphasis on “cloud technology”.

Job offers from Ubisoft Stockholm

The other thing these 26 new offers for an “unannounced game” have in common is that they all come from Ubisoft Stockholm. This young studio saw its opening announced in 2017, in order to support Massive Entertainment in the development of AAA games.

As a reminder, Massive Entertainment is behind many of Ubisoft's flagship games, such as Far Cry 3 or Tom Clancy's The Division 2. The studio should also be responsible for the development of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as the mysterious Star Wars project, in partnership with Lucasfilms.

Speculation can therefore be rife as to what this “unannounced game” may be. The latest project that comes closest to an MMO from Ubisoft is The Division franchise. Ubisoft Stockholm having been created in support of Massive Entertainment, which developed the two previous opuses, a third would not be surprising.

It could still be the Assassin's Creed Infinity project, or a whole new license. The Massively Online Mystery remains intact.
