The fall of the Titan?

In recent months, Titanfall 2 has unfortunately been the subject of bad press. Recently, a conflict between the communities of this game and Apex Legends, Respawn's Battle Royale in the same universe, generated some cold sweats at the studio.

Today, Titanfall 2 is being talked about again, while the said conflict has not yet completely subsided. A particularly harmful bug would indeed have compromised the game, a priori capable of executing local code from the server. Understand by this that malicious people could access a machine if Titanfall 2 was installed there.

The gaming community then urgently set out to warn all those concerned, urging them to immediately uninstall the game, so as not to put the security of their machine in danger.

Quickly made aware of the situation, Respawn split its own investigation into the matter, as well as less alarmist players. According to the studio, this would not be such a big problem, although caution is still in order. Respawn indicates in any case that it is not necessary to uninstall the game.

According to a player, the bug in question is actually a size limit on a temporary file used to invite other players. If the nickname of the person who made the invitation is too long, the file will overwrite other files to save the name. In fact, the temporary file leaves its defined space and the computer ends up considering it as an executable.

Following a thorough investigation, Respawn believes this to be a relatively benign bug exploit, but one that can still cause the game to crash. The studio is continuing to investigate the issue and will return in due course with more results. concrete, as well as a solution.
