If you knew video games in the 80s and 90s, it is very likely that the very particular aesthetics of the game boxes of the'era makes you nostalgic. Rest assured: you are not alone. Matheus Peixoto has even decided to turn his nostalgia into a captivating artistic project.

Under the name of Ink Trash, the Brazilian graphic designer has regularly published since the end of 2020 magnificent posters using the visual codes of the jackets of yesteryear. A way to dive into the past, which demonstrates how much game covers have calmed down over the past thirty years.

Retro, but not too much

Among Us, Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima or even the very recent Elden Ring. Ink Trash sticks to the news to offer retro reinterpretations of the games that thrill us today.

In the same way that many developers have fun creating "demakes" of recent games by mimicking the aesthetics of games from the PS1/N64 era, Matheus Peixoto imagines what they could look like on the shelves of specialized stores.

Suffice to say that we are starting to touch on something very vintage, in a world where only 10% of new games are released in boxed version. The share of dematerialized in video game sales now exceeds 70% on average. Which obviously raises questions about the second-hand model, the preservation of video game heritage and the willingness of platforms to let us access our games.

In short, boring and almost irrelevant questions here. So let's dive instead into this great bath of nostalgia. And why not support the artist by offering yourself a print or a t-shirt?
