Big disappointment in sight for Xbox players? According to the latest rumors in the hallway, the saga final Fantasy would become a firm, not temporary, PlayStation exclusive.
If, like all rumors, the information is not to be taken at face value, Square Enix would have the firm intention of making the PS5 the main platform for Final Fantasy games.
The next Final Fantasy exclusively on PS5?
The Final Fantasy saga still has a bright future ahead of it. Between the spin-off Stranger of Paradise, the enigmatic Final Fantasy 16 or the long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, Square Enix intends to exploit its flagship license. However, not everyone could benefit from it. According to VGC journalist Jordan Middler, Xbox players would be sidelined for this generation.
According to him, the future main Final Fantasy games would be exclusive to PlayStation consoles and not just temporary, as is currently the case. In the ResetEra forums, the journalist explains that "Square Enix is ​​firmly in Sony's camp, even beyond what is publicly known". A more than enigmatic teaser, but we shouldn't wait too long to find out what lies behind these words. An announcement would indeed be expected soon, although it is not known if this concerns this possibly reinforced partnership or a new large-scale project which would come to confirm it.
Xbox players sidelined?
According to this same source, the Japanese publisher would like PlayStation to be "the main home of Final Fantasy" for this generation, and that unless "something changes" this could continue for years to come. In other words, the next numbered installments in the saga would not be released on Xbox machines at all. Square Enix would however be inclined to market the games concerned on PC a few months after their release on PS5, like the much criticized port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
This strong handshake between the two Japanese companies would explain the absence of FF7 Remake Intergrade on Xbox consoles while the temporary PlayStation exclusivity is completed. All is not lost, since this partnership would not concern spin-offs, like Strange of Paradise, which will indeed be released on all media simultaneously, nor the other games in the Square Enix catalog.
