  • Nine movies in one game
  • Hundreds of characters to unlock
  • Certainly simple but well-crafted fights
  • Graphically very clean
  • A framerate not always constant
  • A dynamic resolution that sometimes drops very low
  • Unergonomic menus
  • Quite obvious cuts in the scenario

We already talked about it in March, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a long-term project that will have taken its time before landing on consoles and PC. Indeed, TT Games had a significant delay on the initial release date and we could have feared a launch with some indifference on the part of the players. Fortunately, the title published by Warner Bros. Games arrives in a low period of the calendar and will probably enjoy good media exposure. But the quality still has to be there...

Test carried out on PS5 from a code provided by the publisher. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will also be released on PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on April 5, 2022.

A Lightsaber Cut Epic

Needless to tell the story of the Star Wars saga that almost everyone knows. It should be noted that once the game has started, the player can start with the trilogy of his choice. However, it is necessary to complete the first episode of each trilogy to unlock the next one. For example, you have to reach the conclusion of The Phantom Menace to be able to discover Attack of the Clones. Anyway, the nine films are indeed there! TT Games has concocted many cinematics seasoned with LEGO sauce to make us relive the greatest sequences of each feature film. All with a good dose of humor used in order to lessen the dramatic side of certain scenes. Because it must be remembered, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is above all intended for a young audience.

The ubiquitous humor comes to defuse the dramatic aspect of several scenes

If the whole is both harmonious and told effectively, we can unfortunately regret some abrupt ellipses. Indeed, if the unconditional fans of the films will be on familiar and conquered ground, the others who know perhaps a little less the universe could be lost in the face of a sometimes awkward chain of events. We could have guessed it, but the game focuses exclusively on the important moments of each scenario without being cluttered with the superfluous. An episode can thus be finished in just two or three hours straight. This is not necessarily a bad thing in itself, but the shortcuts taken can be confusing for newcomers.

We really have the opportunity to relive legendary scenes!

Further, stronger!

Admittedly, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga still saw things big! This is the most complete LEGO game to date. Here, we are not content to survey the revisited sets of the films... TT Games has created an epic with a clever rhythm and varied gameplay phases. The fights have shown appreciable work. The characters can perform melee combos, parry blows and of course use weapons (lightsabers for the Jedi, Rey's staff, etc.) in line with their equipment in the films. And if the clashes are not very difficult, they are nonetheless enjoyable in terms of sensations controller in hand. The battles against the bosses benefit from a solid staging (with a few QTEs in passing). As for the shooting phases, they are perfectly worthy of a large TPS with in particular a camera placed behind our avatar to make it possible to target the parts of the body of an enemy. A cover system was also introduced. This one is more anecdotal and a bit perfectible since our hero takes cover automatically when he crosses a barricade and without necessarily asking the player for his opinion.

The aiming system works quite well even if the enemies offer little resistance

In addition, the progression is crossed with phases of piloting of ship during which it is generally asked to cut down objectives. Each machine responds to the finger and the eye thanks to controls that are as simple as they are effective. Traditional platform sequences are also present and mini-games bring yet another dose of variety to the whole. To put it simply, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga frequently renews brilliantly. We are not bored for a single second! The vastest environments are just waiting to be explored and the "Free Game" mode allows you to return to them outside the scenario in order to dislodge all the secrets... And the game is absolutely not stingy with "collectibles" to pick up or other ancillary tasks to accomplish.

Enigmas can invite themselves to the trip... But nothing very difficult there either

Hard hard to be a Jedi

Because apart from plunging us into the heart of the adventures of the films, this new generation LEGO Star Wars mainly relies on its “collection” aspect to retain the player for long hours. More than 300 characters can thus be unlocked (including alternative skins) and there are also a good hundred ships to pilot. As you can imagine, to unlock all these beautiful people, you will have to complete optional missions given by NPCs. But the sinews of war are on the side of the kyber bricks scattered around the four corners of the planets of the distant galaxy. To obtain them, you sometimes simply have to explore the area or more often complete mini-games or even use a specific type of character. For example, only droids can sneak into tight places, villains have the ability to destroy silver objects, jedi to lift boxes using force etc... In short, it is absolutely mandatory to redo a level with the good heroes (or villains) to be able to unearth all the secrets.

JVFR

Be careful, some bricks are well hidden and you sometimes have to rack your brains to find the way to access them

In addition, kyber bricks are used as points to spend in order to improve the characters. If a skill tree acts as a common base for all the protagonists (to increase their speed of movement, detect bonuses, attract coins more easily, etc.), each class also has a skill tree in its own right. Hero, jedi, looter, rascal, bounty hunter, dark side, villain, droid... There's plenty to do! Thus, a player wishing to improve everything thoroughly will have to hunt for more than 1100 sometimes well-hidden kyber bricks. Overcoming the scenario is only the tip of the iceberg... And the icing on the cake, local co-op for up to two players can be activated at any time to facilitate progression while making the adventure more enjoyable. friendly!

The construction, although less central in this title, is still there. And the choice is sometimes left to the player.

Almost like in the movies

As surprising as it may seem, the LEGO leg is far from distorting the emblematic places of the Star Wars saga. Quite the contrary! Graphically speaking, the game comes out on top thanks to its bright colors and richly detailed backgrounds. Overall, the copy is really clean at this level. We happily survey the worlds of the nine films and the characters benefit from hilarious animations. But we will still point out hitches with in particular a sawtooth resolution which can drop (under 1440p) during the busiest scenes. The framerate sometimes leaves something to be desired with a rather inconsistent 60 FPS. The developers thought of adding an option allowing the framerate not to exceed 30 or 60 frames per second. Since the cinematics are in all cases limited to 30 FPS, this limitation makes everything more harmonious to the detriment of fluidity. Another slight concern, the menus are sorely lacking in ergonomics. The map is almost unreadable and it's hard to find your way around when going from one tab to another.

JVFR

The game offers fairly open environments to which it is possible to return later

Finally, quite logically we have to press the audio dimension of the game. We can hear the best music of the franchise and all the dialogues are dubbed in Spanish. And the sound effects are not left out, whether with the iconic sound effect of the lightsaber or that of the ships spinning at high speed in space. It is a work of craftsmanship that TT Games delivers to us. Once again, fans of the saga will be thrilled since the base material has not been altered at all.

JVFR

Darth Vader is a little less scary but he retains all his class!

LEGO Star Wars : The Skywalker Saga, the JVFR avis

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga simply does what was expected of it! It does honor to the nine feature films with their delicious dialogues and magnificent panoramas. It is a real journey to the heart of the series created by George Lucas that is offered to us. It features the best characters, gripping fights and the legendary soundtrack that thrilled millions of viewers around the world. And what about the exceptionally generous content concocted by TT Games. If you like picking up things all over the place, you're going to get what you pay for!

Only a few details significantly taint the experience, such as fluidity that is not always optimal, menus that are difficult to read and shortcuts that are too obvious in each scenario. But overall, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga holds its Jedi rank admirably! It is without the slightest possible objection the most successful and above all the most complete LEGO game to date. This is a great opportunity to rediscover a timeless saga!

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will have tested our patience but the reward is worth it. This content-heavy collection is packed with moments that are as hilarious as they are epic. The whole being magnified by a successful plastic despite some small defects that are not very disabling. An excellent pickaxe!
