Star Wars Battlefront 3: EA really doesn't want it!

The trail of a hypothetical Star Wars Battlefront 3 has cooled considerably in recent hours. Indeed, disappointed by the performance of the second opus, Electronic Arts has obviously chosen to move on.

This week, the American publisher announced three new Star Wars games developed by Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Apex Legends). The list includes a sequel for Jedi: Fallen Order, a strategy-oriented title and a completely new FPS. Unfortunately for fans, this latest first-person shooter isn't just another Battlefront.

The end of an era?

Last November, journalist Tom Henderson already explained that Electronic Arts did not want to give DICE a chance with a possible Star Wars: Battlefront 3. This had however been proposed by the Swedish studio, but the American publisher opposed this idea. Thus, it is the turn of the VentureBeat site to relay this information. Simply put, no Star Wars games are currently in development by any other studio owned by EA.

Only Respawn will work on the Lucasfilm Games license on behalf of the publisher (apart from the MMO The Old Republic at Bioware). In addition to the three projects made official this week, four others are in production around the world. These are Star Wars Eclipse (Quantic Dream), Knights of the Old Republic Remake (Aspyr), LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Ubisoft's open-world.
