According to Sony, the inventory status for the PS5 shouldn't see any improvement until at least 2022.

After announcing a return to better days in the spring of 2021, then in the summer, the Japanese manufacturer recommends that the stocks of its new generation console should not be bailed out before 2022. Despite a delicate situation, the PS5 would have even sold, since March 31, 7,8 million copies, and should experience the same rise as the PS4 in its time.

A continuing shortage

The bad news comes to us from Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki, to analysts wishing to remain anonymous following recent financial reports from the Japanese giant. "I don't think the demand [for the PS5] is going to subside this year. Even if we are able to secure many devices and produce more units next year, we will not be able to keep up with demand”.

The reason for a sad and dragging inventory situation is once again found in the difficulty in obtaining the components necessary to manufacture the console, among other technological products. Sony, however, wants to do its best to improve the production of the PS5.

Among the options to make this objective achievable: the idea of a new version of the console by next year, motivated among other things by the difficulty in obtaining supplies of silicone.

A success worthy of that of the PS4, despite the situation

Despite a delicate situation for Sony, the PS5 continues on its merry way and retains the ransom of its success. Since its release in November 2020 and until the end of March 2021, it would still have sold 7,8 million copies.

Sony expects its new generation console to reach 14,8 million copies sold before the end of the current fiscal year. According to the Japanese manufacturer, this progression would be in line with the PS4 in its first year of release.

It remains to be seen if Sony will manage to keep its promises: a return to a better state of stocks for the PS5 next year, and a success as resounding as its elder, which sold in eight years of reign at 115,9 million copies.
