Preview Apex Legends Evasion: a new season still without Titans

If he does not experience the ever more insolent success of Fortnite or Call of duty warzone, it is clear that in the space of almost three years, Apex Legends has managed to make a name for itself in the Battle Royale landscape. We were able to play the new season of the game, called " Evasion â€œ, before its release scheduled for November 2.

As we know, the seasons of Battle Royale taking place during the Halloween periods or during the holiday season are generally not the most interesting. Apex Legends is no exception to the rule with "Evasion", which blows hot and cold.

A brand new card

Fourth map of Apex Legends, Stormpoint is an island where tropical beaches, forests and rocky reliefs intermingle. According to the scenario of the game (because there is one), we are more precisely on one of the lost islands of this universe. And that is important, since the developers promise an evolution of this map over the weeks and seasons to come. Stormpoint is therefore not fixed and above all it is already very large (especially since it could continue to grow): 50% larger than the previous one.

Nevertheless, if you hoped that this imposing card would allow the addition of the Titans of TitanFall (of which Apex Legends shares the universe), it is missed. Steven Ferreira, the game's producer, quickly evacuated the subject during the presentation:

"We've tried to add Titans several times in the past, including when Stormpoint was added, but optimization issues are still there. »

Obviously, as fans of TitanFall we can only be disappointed, especially in the face of the immensity of the map whose sets are rather diversified - even more than in previous maps. However, we find the same game logic and the same hot spots, so much so that the "novelty" effect fades very quickly.

You are not alone on this island

In an attempt to bring some challenge to your games, Respawn Entertainment has added PvE elements. In this case, these are creatures that can appear and harm you, especially if you fight near their eggs. This brings a bit of surprise to your fights, and can even turn a situation around completely.

Note that to facilitate travel on the island, launchers are scattered everywhere. When you pick them up, you are still able to shoot and use your powers.

If the island as a whole is not surprising, it should be noted that certain hotspots will be perfect for neophyte players when others seem reserved for the most veterans. This helps compartmentalize everyone's experiences a bit, even if there are no barriers.

A heroine who struggles to convince

It has become a ritual, which says new season, also says new hero. This time it's Ash. This cyborg with a very successful look mixes the body of an ancient bloodthirsty robot with the brain of a scientist originally from TitanFall 2. His connection with the other heroes of Apex Legends is meanwhile important enough for the developers to promise that he will will be unveiled little by little during this new season.

In terms of gameplay, however, we can't say that it really convinced us. Armed with a sword, Ash is particularly effective in melee, provided he can get close to his enemy. This is where it fails, since although it has a power to open a breach to move from point to point, its survival capabilities seem a bit weak compared to those of other historical heroes.

The arc trap, which allows you to hurt your enemies, does not do enough damage, in our opinion, to change the course of a duel, while the one-way portal is not long enough to manage to extricate yourself from a difficult fight, or on the contrary, to approach it by surprise.

Finally, we note the arrival of the CAR SMG, a weapon again from TitanFall 2, and which has the particularity of allowing the type of ammunition to be varied. She can shoot fast and do a lot of damage, provided you fully control her.

If it is certain that this season should not disappoint the fans, Apex Legends takes minimal risk here despite its new map and added legend. It remains to be seen how much the menu will evolve in the coming weeks to confirm or blur this feeling of deja vu…
