Alors que le xCloud will soon be available on both PC and smartphones ou Xbox Series X|S, Sony is about to step up a gear with the PlayStation Now.

A patent filed by the Japanese giant indeed suggests that PS5 games could soon be streamed on PS4 and PC, thanks in particular to the power of the NVMe SSD of the new generation console.

PlayStation Now soon to be powered by the PS5 SSD?

The patent in question takes a very close look at the PS5's SSD, which is already doing wonders in terms of loading times. The idea would therefore be to group several of them together and store the same information there, which would make it possible to provide data at very high speed to a client device.

More specifically for what interests us here, the patent stops in particular on such use of SSDs for games. He explains how to take advantage of this computing power and velocity in order to offer stable performance, even if one of the SSDs were to be overloaded or to fail.

Reading between the lines of this patent, we can therefore quite consider that Sony plans to drastically boost the infrastructure of its PlayStation Now subscription service. It had so far been relatively late at this level, especially against its direct competitor, xCloud.

The PS5 catalog soon on PlayStation Now?

This would also allow games from the PS5 catalog to finally be integrated into this service, so that subscribers can enjoy them on other media. It would thus be possible to enjoy excellent titles exclusive to the PS5 such as Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart or even Returnal, without owning the new generation console from Sony.

A prospect for the future, to say the least, which would swell an already substantial catalog. Currently, PlayStation Now already offers over 700 PS2, PS3 and PS4 games that can be streamed on PC, PS4 and PS5.

The only downside that prevents you from taking full advantage of this service: the streaming quality still leaves something to be desired on games that are not compatible with 1p. Playing PS080 titles and beyond on PC also requires a PS4 or DualSense controller.

Anyway, you still have to know how to keep reason. As a patent, this does not necessarily mean that Sony will implement its invention, but rather that the company is working on it. Patience is therefore still required before the PS5 games officially land on the PlayStation Now catalog, powered by SSDs from the new generation console.
