More than a year after its announcement, the reboot of Perfect Dark still hasn't shown up. It must be said that the project was probably at an early stage when it was formalized. But we could be entitled to something new very soon.
During the Game Awards 2020, Microsoft took everyone by surprise by releasing a trailer for Perfect Dark. This stealth FPS reboot launched on Nintendo 64 in 2000 is being developed by The Initiative, a new structure owned by Xbox and made up of industry veterans. This ultra-ambitious project (we are talking about an AAAA game) requires the mobilization of Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider, Marvel's Avengers).
Accelerating development?
Alas, the first indiscretions were not really optimistic about the progress of the development. Several employees who held major positions have thus left the ship along the way… However, if we are to believe the recent words of journalist Jeff Grubb, the next presentation of Perfect Dark would not be so far away. The main interested party indicates that the game will be promoted this summer by Xbox (during the E3 period).
Grubb estimates Perfect Dark could be released in 2023 or 2024, which would be around five long years of production. He also thinks that Microsoft will spend a lot of time on Starfield, Redfall and the next Forza Motorsport during its summer event.
