After announcing the launch exclusively on PC of a closed beta at the end of April for the continuation of its FPS to success, Blizzard split more details about it.

Official date, content and PC requirements, here is everything you need to know for the event scheduled in a short month.

The policy of small steps

The blog post announcing the launch of the multiplayer-only closed beta for Overwatch 2 was updated this weekend with several important details, starting with an official date. Players who have registered via a dedicated page can thus expect to receive an invitation from April 26th.

Blizzard's Team 4 took the opportunity to indicate a revision of their plans for Overwatch 2: PvE and PvP modes will be decoupled, so that the second is deployed as quickly as possible. A cautious but sensible strategy, given that the first game's multiplayer has been more or less in complete inertia for nearly a year.

However, new PvP content will be injected over time. Besides the change from 6v6 to 5v5, the closed beta will indeed only include a new hero, Sojourn, whom we have so far only surreptitiously seen in action. Four new maps, which we had already seen in exhibition matches, will also be there, as well as the new Push mode, also presented several times. Finally, a very popular ping system in the first game can be tested as soon as the beta is launched.

For the existing content, we will be able to discover the reworks of Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion and Sombra, the last two having already been presented during the final of the Overwatch League. Regarding the intriguing PvE mode, the cornerstone of this second opus, it will probably be necessary to wait until 2023, when the game's release was postponed.

New game, but not necessarily more greedy

Closed beta on PC requires, Blizzard has also shared the required configurations in order to enjoy the game smoothly. It is clear that Team 4 has tried to offer the least greedy title possible so that the maximum number of players can enjoy it, despite a new engine specially developed for this sequel.

Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10 64bit (latest Service Pack);
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 or AMD Phenom X3 8650;
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600 Series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series;
  • Memory: 6GB RAM;
  • Disk space required: 50 GB.

Recommended configuration

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (latest Service Pack);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 5;
  • Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD R9 380;
  • Memory: 8GB RAM;
  • Disk space required: 50 GB.

These relatively modest configurations should therefore run Overwatch 2 correctly at 1080p, even if this has not yet been specified by Blizzard. For higher resolutions, however, it will be necessary to revise these ambitions slightly upwards, just to seek the sacrosanct 60 fps, or even beyond for the most demanding.
