A Switch Pro with OLED screen

On Twitter, tech YouTuber Spawn Wave shares a transcript of Universal Display Corporation's traditional quarter-end investor call. It is an OLED display developer, producer and supplier.

Steven V. Abramson, President and CEO of the company, explains that the OLED market is booming. After TVs and smartphones, it is now the panels of laptops that use this technology. He cites the example of the Xiaomi Mi Laptop Pro 15 and Dell XPS 13 9310 laptops.

He bids that the video game market will also contribute to the growth of OLED, and says that “Nintendo has selected an OLED screen for its new Switch Pro”. We therefore have a trusted industry source which confirms the imminent arrival of a new hybrid console at Nintendo, and which should therefore bear the name of Switch Pro.

A screen bigger than that of the Switch?

The boss of Universal Display Corporation adds that the choice fell on OLED, because this technology offers better contrast and faster response times than LCD, nothing new on that side.

Rumors surrounding the imminent announcement of a Switch Pro had already intensified recently, when Nintendo shared its Switch sales target in its latest financial report: 30 million units. A figure that seems achievable only with a new model of the console.

The Switch Pro should be 4K compatible in docked mode (so on TV, not in portable mode), and be equipped with a more efficient and energy efficient chip. The size of the screen and the console should be increased, allowing the integration of a higher capacity battery.
