Nintendo Switch: Game Boy games could soon be deployed

Update 03/09/2021: Eurogamer in turn confirms the arrival of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games within Nintendo Switch Online. Better still, the English site mentions the fact that other retro consoles could land on Switch in the more or less near future.

As its third anniversary approaches, Nintendo Switch Online may well have a little surprise in store for its subscribers. Indeed, new rumors evoke the arrival of Game Boy games on the hybrid machine of the Japanese manufacturer.

Since its launch in September 2018, Nintendo Switch Online has allowed users to play online on Switch for an annual payment of around twenty euros. Some additional advantages are also required, such as access to games from the NES and SNES generations. This retrogaming aspect is very popular with fans of the Japanese brand and the latter could therefore go all out at this level.

Thus, according to the words of the insider NateDrake, the Game Boy and Game Boy Color games should be deployed “in the coming weeks” on Nintendo Switch for Online subscribers. A hallway noise then confirmed by the Nintendo Life site. The firm could therefore release the titles in question by the end of the year. Of course, it is essential to take this information with a grain of salt while waiting for a hypothetical confirmation.

Finally, these same sources specify that it is unlikely to see Game Boy Advance games land on Switch since Nintendo is starting to release remasters of titles from this machine. This will be the case, for example, with Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp in December.
