Almost a year and a half after the last broadcast, the Nintendo Direct made its big comeback on February 17, 2021. It was an opportunity to discover new content for titles already available but also part of the Switch catalog planned for the first half of this year.


So let's start the summary of this Nintendo Direct which will have lasted about 50 minutes...

Here come some new challengers

Nintendo had teased it and we were treated to a new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Welcome to Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming to the game in March. To stay on the side of the games already announced for the Nintendo Switch, note that Monter Hunter Rise (March 26, 2021) took advantage of the event to show itself once again. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will welcome Mario's 35th Anniversary cosmetic items on February 25, 2021.


The excellent Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity took a look at this Nintendo Direct to announce its expansion pass. To stay in the Switch exclusives department, Capcom released a video of Ghost 'n Goblins Resurrection, which is scheduled for release on February 25th. No More Heroes 3 also came to say hello to communicate its date set for August 27th.

Even more games?

Less prominent apps that still got a bit of airtime include Project Triangle Strategy (2022 + a demo available now), NeonWhite (Winter 2021), SaGa Frontier Remastered (April 15, 2021), World's End Club (May 28, 2021), Stubbs (March 16, 2021), Legend of Mana (June 24, 2021), Samurai Warriors 5 (Summer 2021), Capcom Arcade Stadium (available now), DC Super Hero Girls Teen Power (June 4 2021), Knockout City (May 21, 2021), Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville - Complete Edition (March 19, 2021), and two Detective Club games from the Famicom (May 14, 2021).


Other publishers have been there including Electronic Arts with Apex Legends which launches on Switch on March 9, 2021. Telltale Games will offer the console a port of Tales from the Borderlands (March 24, 2021) and Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection (10 June 2021) also answered present. Then, it is the very user-friendly Fall Guys which will be available at Nintendo this summer.

The superb Outer Wilds is also on the Switch program for this summer. Among the best games of 2020, Hades stood out and Supergiant Games' title will get a physical release on March 19th. The box will include a code to download the soundtrack on PC and a 32-page artbook. Also, Star Wars Hunters, a competitive third-person free-to-play game, will be released in 2021.


And (small) surprises of course!

Among other important information, let's stop at the return of Mario Golf: Super Rush (June 25, 2021) with an opus dedicated to the Japanese brand's hybrid console. And what about the remastering of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword which arrives in HD on July 15, 2021. Exclusive Joy-Con in the colors of the license will land on the same date. To put an end to ports, Miitopia, a 3DS role-playing game launched in July 2017, will settle down on Switch on May 21, 2021.

Finally, it was Splatoon 3 that concluded the show. The trailer specifies that the title will be released in 2022. As for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, Nintendo hopes to communicate about it later this year.
