New World: a first patch without character transfer, but loaded with fixes

Expected at 12:00 p.m. (Paris time) today, a first patch for N brings its share of fixes… but not the much requested transfer of characters between servers.

Despite its launch problems, Amazon Games' MMO is breaking popularity records by approaching one million players on Steam. The studio therefore intends to make its new world as pleasant to browse as possible for its many settlers.

Renovation work in the New World

Patch 1.0.1, the first since the launch of New World, therefore has the main objective of bringing many bug fixes as well as some elements of the type
"quality of life" so that any newcomer can play and progress in the New World without encountering untimely interruptions.

Among the elements aimed at accomplishing this objective, the “Away” system (or AFK for short) has been redesigned. Instead of activating after 25 minutes, it will activate after twenty minutes and cannot be interrupted by a few sporadic mouse movements. Likewise, when you want to leave a queue to join a server, a confirmation screen will appear so you don't accidentally interrupt the search.

The "War" mode has also received some adjustments: projectile turrets are no longer treated as physical objects, but are now hitscanned. Understand that there will be no travel time when a turret fires. This should improve performance by limiting too many objects spawning in the world.

Unfortunately, the most anticipated feature for many settlers will not be in the game. The functionality to transfer characters between servers in order to find friends who have placed themselves on the free servers they could find is under development.

Correction in the fabric of the world

In addition to these small features aimed at improving the overall experience, patch 1.0.1 comes with a slew of bug fixes. Most of them focus on scripting issues during quests or rewards not being granted after completing them.

Others correct much more annoying problems, such as the possibility of recovering loot indefinitely, the impossibility of taking damage under certain circumstances or even animation bugs. You can find the full patch notes for Patch 1.0.1 via the blog post on the game's official website, cited in source below.

Amazon Games continues to keep an eye on New World in any case, and this is only the first patch in a long series, which we hope will bring some stability to the whole. There is therefore a lot to do on this PC exclusivity before considering a console version.
