almost a month ago, Marvel's Avengers introduced paid experience boosts, despite the studios' promise never to use such considered mechanics pay-to-win.

A decision rightly criticized by the community, so much so that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have today decided to do an about face and withdraw these highly controversial boosts.

Correcting past mistakes

A week after the arrival of the cooperative Action-RPG from Crystal Dynamics on the Game Pass, we learned that it was going to offer experience boosts for purchase against real money. A decision that was far from unanimous, in addition to breaking a promise made several times by developers like the publisher.

A decision which, however, had been anticipated by many when the experience gain had been drastically reduced several months earlier. Square Enix probably saw there a solution to bail out this service game which is having a hard time recovering from a most problematic launch. Unfortunately, the community did not see the maneuver so favorably, further worsening the reputation of a title that really did not need that.

As a result of these many very negative feedbacks, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have therefore decided to backpedal on their decision and remove once and for all these paid experience boosts by the end of the day.

According to the message posted on the game's official Twitter account, such a mechanic was not considered pay-to-win, as it did not offer a power boost per se. This was certainly not the vision that the community had of it, given the situation.

Thus, these boosts will be content in the future to be earned simply by playing. Those who have already acquired the paid version can continue to benefit from it. After this small gap now relegated to the past, let's hope that the future of Marvel's Avengers will be brighter, especially with other heroes and DLC to come.
