Who said that Raspberry Pi necessarily had to nurture “serious” projects?

Alfredo Sequeida probably had a Nerf gun or two lying around in a corner of his garage. Toys that had not been used for months and years and to which he decided to give a second life.

An old smartphone for movements

The YouTubeur grabbed a Nerf Fortnite Edition to convert it into an "absolute weapon" in Call of Duty. The idea is to be compared to the light guns of our childhood - well, mine - or guns mounted on certain arcade terminals like the venerable Operation Wolf.

Alfredo Sequeida first decided to use the Nerf trigger to fire in Activision's game. Logic. He then 3D printed various additional buttons to provide other functions such as covers or jumps. Finally, an old smartphone, a Nexus 5, has been associated with the project: fixed, as you can see in the video, on the side of the Nerf, it lends its accelerometer to the movements of the character.

The next step, the software, was obviously the trickiest part. There, Alfredo Sequeida therefore looked into the case of the Raspberry Pi 4. Python scripts were written so that the Nerf gun could be recognized as a controller for the game. All the codes were made available on GitHub. Guaranteed much more immersive than with a "normal" controller, perhaps the experience will tempt you?
