Game over, Fortnite servers will close in China

It's done, the servers of Fortnite will definitely close in a few days.

Do not panic however, it will happen on the side of China, the fault of very specific conditions.

Game over for Fortnite in China

As you probably know, in terms of relations between China and video games, it's complicated, as we used to say on Facebook. The latest victim is a certain Fortnite which, despite a colossal success around the world, fails to unite the crowds on Chinese soil. Obviously, the game signed Epic Games has been largely remodeled to suit local legislation, and neither the players nor the publisher find their account.

Fortnite derives much of its revenue from microtransactions, which have been banned by the Chinese government. Many outfits (Skins) are also censored in China. The game, in its classic form, was also banned in 2018, which is why Fortnite had been largely remodeled to suit Chinese values, with for example the possibility of designating several winners in a game.

But nothing helps, the Fortress Night test is coming to an end and Epic Games announces its intention to close the servers very soon. As of today, it is impossible to create a new user account.

As of November 15, the servers will be decommissioned, and players will therefore no longer be able to participate in the game. "Thank you to everyone who took part in the adventure, and who participated in the Fortnite test", indicates EpicGames.

Do not panic so if you are a player in Spain (or elsewhere than in China) and a fervent fan of the Fortnite license, you will be able to continue to enjoy the game for a good while yet. Remember that the game should switch to Unreal Engine 5 in 2022.
