Nintendo won the case, but wanted a little more

In 2019, Nintendo filed a complaint against an illegal video game download site called RomUniverse. As usual, big N was still very careful to protect its image, its brands and therefore its licenses. The case was then brought before the California District Court, until the creator of the site, Matthew Storman, was sentenced in May 2021 to pay no less than $ 2,1 million in damages to the Japanese publisher.

However, the sum paid not being sufficient to satisfy the company, Nintendo finally asked the court to reconsider certain refused injunctions, the publisher fearing a possible return of the site. In fact, Matthew Storman had hinted that this option could be considered.

Part of the court order, against RomUniverse

In response to this request, the court ultimately agreed to more than overwhelmingly side with big N. On August 5, 2021, the judge in charge therefore formally ordered Matthew Storman to remove all content from his related site. to Nintendo, from games to books, music, films and everything that belongs to the company concerned, no later than August 17, 2021. A story that ends badly for the creator and which once again shows how point Nintendo can be virulent when it comes to its licenses.
