Elden Ring is a gigantic game in which it is easy to get distracted…to the point of losing sight of our objective! So if you feel a little lost and have no idea where to go for the rest of your adventure, we recommend a turnkey itinerary.

Warning: this guide and those that follow are obviously intended for people currently playing Elden Ring and may contain spoilers. Make sure you don't go too far down the list if you want to preserve yourself and not spoil the surprise of discovering a boss or an area! You have been warned.

Finally, remember that Elden Ring is a fairly permissive game on the path offered to its players. We are here only recommending a route, which we know works for having taken it. Nothing forces you to do the same.

Where to go after Voilorage Castle?

Located north of Necrolimbo, Castle Veilorage is the game's first real dungeon and difficulty spike. escape a luminous ray guiding you between its walls.

But if the lair of Godrick the Grafted is already a bad memory for you, all you have to do is continue north, towards Liurna, the lake region.

After defeating Godrick, continue straight ahead.

This area, arguably one of the finest and largest in the Elden Ring, can be reached by continuing straight past Godrick. In front of you will be a huge castle appearing to float above a lake, which will certainly remind fans of Hogwarts.

Liurna and the academy of Raya Lucaria

And that's good, since it is precisely a magic academy! You will understand, here is your next destination. Raya Lucaria's Academy is the second major dungeon in the adventure.

But to enter it, you will need to get your hands on a key to break down its magical barriers. And this one is pretty well guarded.

Conquer the Academy of Raya Lucaria!

To find it, you will have to disturb the sleep of a dragon, located west of the academy. But rest assured: no need to kill him if the poor beast arouses sympathy for you. Just go behind her (on a mount is better) and pick up the key from the body there.

Your sesame in your pocket, return to the entrance of the academy to begin your ascent of the dungeon.

The key to access the academy is guarded by a dragon to the west of the academy.

The Altus plateau and the capital of Leyndell

Once Queen Rennala is defeated, it's time to resume your adventure. Now in possession of two major runes, the Augur of the Fingers of the Round Table Bastion explains that you can now enter the capital, Leyndell, and claim the throne of Elden, at the foot of the World Tree.

To get there, you have two options. Either take the large Dectus Elevator, located northeast of Liurna, or climb the cliff through hostile caves guarded by a magma dragon. Note that if you opt for this second solution, you will pick up a package of forging stones necessary to improve your weapons. It's not a bad idea.

The Dectus Elevator allows you to quickly reach the Altus Plateau.

JVFR

The first part of the medallion is at Fort Haight, east of Necrolimbo.

JVFR

The second part is in Fort Faroth, east of Caelid.

However, if you want to take the elevator, here is where to find the two parts of the medallion to activate it. The first is at Fort Haight, just east of Necrolimbo. The second part is more difficult to obtain, and is located in Fort Faroth, in the Dragon Mound east of Caelid.

JVFR

There is a cavern north of the Dectus Elevator that allows access to the Altus Plateau without having a medallion.

Once the two parts are in your pocket, go to the bottom of the elevator to go to the Plateau d'Altus.

Here, your objective will be to travel to the capital, Leyndell. It is located at the very east of the area, at the foot of the World Tree.

To enter, you will have to go through the northern ramparts. Unfortunately these are fiercely guarded by a draconic Sentinel on horseback who is not going to let it go. Good luck !

JVFR

Access to the capital is via the northern rampart.

JVFR

Once in the capital, you immediately have your objective in sight: the throne of Elden, and the World Tree. Take your time to explore the area, and in particular its basements, which are particularly rich in loot and optional bosses (we will come back to this).

The peak of the giants

After the events of Leyndell, your servant Melina asks you to collect something to clear your way inside the World Tree in order to meet Queen Marika. To do this, you will need to go to the top of the peak of the giants, located at the very north of the map.

To reach this area, you will have to use Rold's medallion, which Melina normally provided you with. Rold's Elevator is located north of the capital, on the same path you will need to take to restore the power of the major rune you just obtained.

JVFR

To find Rold's Elevator, follow the path that leads you to the East Altus Divine Tower.

Once in the Forbidden Lands, you can run straight ahead, avoiding traps and the gargoyle boss (optional) guarding the entrance to Rold's elevator. Rest at the site of grace, and present the medallion to reach the mountains of the giants.

Once in the heights, there are not 50 solutions: progress in the area until you reach the huge cauldron located at the highest point of the area. The path is quite logical and shouldn't cause you too many problems. Warning: the area is particularly difficult.

The ruins of the Azula Lighthouse

After the twists and turns of Giant's Rise, Melina will teleport you to one of the most majestic and terrifying areas in the game: ancient Farum Azula. An ancient city lost in the clouds in a perpetual maelstrom.

This is without a doubt the most difficult area in the game, so be careful! Remember that none of the dragons that will attack you on the way is a mandatory fight. Take to your heels if you don't feel it, and come back to slay them later to recover particularly valuable components.

Your objective will be to reach the huge circular building located to the east of the area. But a long road awaits you, and it is strewn with pitfalls.

JVFR

Proceed carefully in Farum Azula, the area is particularly difficult.

The first time out is reached when you get to the level of the dragon transept, roughly in the middle of the area. Here, you will have to overcome one of the most difficult bosses in the game: the Sanctechair duo.

Once victorious, you will be able to progress on the surface of the fallen city, and continue to advance towards your objective. When you set foot on the bridge that leads to the last area, keep in mind that the Mounted Dragon Sentinel guarding the entrance to the building is also optional. Killing him will prepare you before attacking the end of the zone boss, but you can also run and enter the arena before he attacks you.

JVFR

The goal is to reach this circular building, to the east of the area.

Back to Leyndell

Once the leader of the Ebony Blade has been slain, and enough to cut the brambles that prevents you from entering the World Tree recovered, you can return to the capital, where new battles await you.

Transformed into a "capital of ashes", Leyndell has lost its luster. But it brought back with it old glories like Godfrey, whom you'll face again in a much more edgy version than the first time you passed through Leyndell.

Once your opponent is defeated, nothing prevents you from entering the World Tree to restore the circle of Elden. And we leave you the surprise of discovering what is hidden inside.

All you have to do is enter the World Tree...

Elden Ring optional areas

As you may have noticed, the proposed itinerary doesn't even require you to set foot in Caelid or discover what lies west of the Altus Plateau. The reason is simple: if these areas indeed contain some of the major bosses of the adventure, they are in no way mandatory to advance and complete the game.

caelid

You will quickly be tempted to venture into Caelid and that's normal. Located east of the Necrolimbo, it is easily reachable for new players. But beware: this area is particularly inhospitable. And it also contains one of the fiercest bosses in the game: General Radahn.

Bearer of a major rune, it is located in the castle of the Red Lion in the south-east of the area. A very, very special fight awaits you at the key to what is immediately presented as a festival of war.

JVFR

General Radahn is possibly one of the toughest bosses in the game.

Note that defeating Radahn is absolutely essential to access one of the game's many underground areas: Nokron, the Eternal City.

Nokron, the eternal city

When you defeat Radahn, you'll see a cutscene showing a comet crashing into the Underworld. This will actually open a passage to one of the underground areas of the game: Nokron, the eternal city.

Optional, this area is important for completing the quest for the witch Ranni, which gives you access not only to one of the game's endings, but also to the Moonlight swordfish: probably the weapon the most mythical of FromSoftware games.

JVFR

This is your gateway to Nokron.

The Volcano Mansion

To the west of the Altus plateau is Mount Gelmir, where a volcano sits that houses an ominous mansion.

This is the lair of Ryckard, one of the bearers of major runes. This special new dungeon offers you several ways to meet your host. You can as well overcome the Noble Sanctechair and go through the balcony to find, at the end of a path strewn with pitfalls, a teleporter taking you to his lair. Or follow the quests offered by Lady Tanith and her refractory caste. By doing so, you will eventually gain audience with Rykard.
