An adventure as enchanting as it is fantastic
Released last week and developed by Bandai Namco, Tales of Arise came at a pivotal moment in the franchise from which it is drawn. This indeed celebrates its 25th anniversary, and always showed itself as a series of J-RPGs of good quality, but a little classic in its content. With Tales of Arise, Bandai Namco intends to offer an episode of maturity, while bringing something new to its well-known license.
And it is clear that the result is largely up to the ambitions of the studio. We embody Alphen, a young man reduced to slavery, like all the people of Dahna, a planet at war against its twin star, Rena. He will quickly meet Shionne, a young woman from the nobility of Rena, hunted by her own people, with whom he will become friends.
The stage is set for an adventure that will take our two characters and their companions with an equally interesting story far beyond their status as pariahs, towards a most epic rise. So expect a breathless narrative rising constantly crescendo, with increasingly dantesque fights against formidable opponents.
Everything is punctuated by a masterful soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba, and animated by a simply sumptuous artistic direction, magnified even more on PS5. Sony's latest generation console also provides foolproof fluidity, despite the rain of visual effects to which Tales of Arise regularly subjects us.
