For many years, the iconic license FPS Activision understands that war sells. Copies, the American publisher has sold tons around the world. With Call of Duty: Vanguard, Activision once again wanted to score a big blow but, conversely, the opus is paying the price for a counter performance while the players desert the license.
Inevitably, on the side of the future property of Microsoft, we are looking for explanations for this fall even if we are already actively at work to restore the image of the franchise. But, after reflection, a culprit seems all designated!
To pull too much on the COD, it ends up breaking
Activision is demanding with the Call of Duty license, it's undeniable. Vanguard may have ranked among the best sellers of 2021 – when it was released in November – but we expected better from the American giant. True to his ogre appetite, the publisher therefore went in search of answers to try to understand what had gone wrong with this new episode.
Concerned about the money it earns, Activision frequently monitors its financial results. The first months of 2022 have passed, which has allowed the publisher to draw up a less dazzling report than usual and to establish forecasts below expectations. The poor reception is therefore felt in the accounts of the American giant, which has decided to tap the fingers of its latest child, in particular to blame the choice of the framework for its plot.
According to the company, the choice of the Second World War was not the wisest and “did not resonate with part of the community”. However, this is not the only point that Activision criticizes since the publisher also pointed to the lack of innovation of this episode when explaining the mixed results.
