Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer introduces itself by sprinting through a wall

Expected November 5 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the new franchise title FPS Call of Duty, code name Vanguard, unveiled this evening during a livestream dedicated to the multiplayer mode.

The opportunity, after being treated to a preview of the single player mode during Gamescom 2021, to see what the second major part of any Call of Duty opus will look like.

Break the fourth wall

Great novelty of Call of Duty: Vanguard presented with great fanfare during this thirty-minute livestream: the destructible decor. A way to encourage creativity and make each game unique. In particular, it will be possible to sprint through certain sets or to create cover from which to shoot blindly (another novelty in Call of Duty), or even to mount your weapon without transition between the two animations.

To stay on the weapons, these will be fully customizable. From appearance to accessories to even a caliber and ammunition system. This feature will increase damage against players and scenery depending on the type selected.
Call of Duty: Vanguard will also welcome a dispersion system: whistling bullets above an opponent will cause a reduction in their movement speed. The well-known system of assets from previous episodes may come to alter the kit of his character and the behavior of weapons.

Another central element of this new episode: 12 members of the special forces, which we can also discover in the solo part of the game, to unlock (including six during the beta). Each will have a customizable kit and a distinct personality, and these members are inspired by real people. Through a progression system specific to each, it will be possible to unlock cosmetic elements such as appearances or melee execution animations rendered in the third person. We were also able to see some accessories and gadgets such as a healing syringe, various grenades and… a radio-controlled mini-tank?

World War II gets a makeover

Sledgehammer Games seems to have gone into overdrive for this new installment in the Call of Duty franchise. In addition to the new features mentioned so far, 20 maps will be available at launch, inspired by real and historical places. We were also able to see the work done on their design and rendering thanks to the game engine including a system that adds an evolving climate. Gusts of wind, torrential rains and more will be on the program to add a little chaos to each game.

This livestream was also an opportunity for the studio to tell us about a specifically developed PC version. This will support the latest existing technologies such as ultrawide, multi-screen, unlimited frames per second, and many others. Fully customizable parameters will of course be included, such as better control of input latency. Sledgehammer Games also intends to make this version of the game more accessible for everyone, in particular with better text readability, and many other options.

As for the game modes, we were able to briefly discover some of them, such as Team Deathmatch, Champion Hill, Kill Confirmed and others. It will also be possible to filter these different modes in order to access the experience you want. Vanguard will also integrate a clan system to play with friends, which will have the good taste of being cross-platform, cross-progression and cross-generation.

Vanguard wasn't exactly the only party tonight, as Warzone also got its moment of glory. A new map inspired by the future title of Sledgehammer Games will be introduced following the launch of the game: the Pacific. It will support cross-play, cross-progression and cross-generations. The Battle Royale team also said they were working on a new anti-cheat solution, which would certainly not be too much.

It is already possible to pre-order Vanguard on PS4 and PS5 to benefit from a pre-loading of the early access to the beta starting this weekend. Some content creators were also entitled to privileged access to Vanguard's multiplayer mode tonight, which can be viewed on their respective YouTube and Twitch channels.

The final version of the game is expected on November 5 on PC, as well as on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
