Things are definitely moving very quickly on the side of Call of Duty. Indeed, Activision could review its calendar from next year. Because according to new rumors, the famous saga of FPS would be about to give up on its annual outings…

But you can rest easy, because Call of Duty is not going away.

A big change is coming?

The near future of Call of Duty is murky at present, to say the least. Whether it's because of the relative failure of Vanguard or Microsoft's takeover of Activision Blizzard, the American publisher's favorite franchise will no doubt have to reinvent itself. And it may start as early as 2023 if we are to believe a recent survey published by Bloomberg. However, what follows is to be taken with a grain of salt.

Since 2005, we've had one Call of Duty per year. This frenetic pace ended up exasperating part of the community (and part of the development teams). But according to journalist Jason Schreier, Activision should end this practice as early as 2023. Thus, we should not see the launch of yet another Call of Duty next year. This decision would not come from Microsoft, but from Activision following the disappointing sales of Vanguard.

And it's not over !

Despite the hypothetical postponement of this Call of Duty developed by Treyarch to 2024, the saga will still receive some new features next year. Schreier mentions in particular a new free-to-play opus but also content for Call of Duty Warzone 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which will be released in 2022. The latter should also be supported in the long term by Infinity Ward.

Finally, Activision published a press release in order to respond to the indiscretions relayed by Bloomberg. The American firm is content to say that it has "a wide range of premium and free-to-play experiences for Call of Duty this year, next year and beyond". While adding not to believe in the information which affirms the contrary… In any case, Activision does not formally deny the postponement of Call of Duty 2023 to 2024. Case to follow!
