Not-so-well-kept secret, yet-undisclosed ultimate game mode for the latest FPS from DICE, Battlefield 2042, was unveiled in more detail during EA Play 2021. Codename Portal, it is actually a community platform created in partnership with Ripple Effect.
As rumors announced, it will be a very special community experience, allowing you to create completely crazy games mixing elements from many games from the long history of Battlefield.

A Portal to Other Dimensions of Total War
Community platform obliges, Portal will offer almost infinite possibilities to the players to invent the craziest parts possible. This will be enabled thanks to a powerful creation tool including many parameters, custom modes and even a logic editor. The most seasoned will be able to share their creations with the rest of the community, in order to offer a giant sandbox rarely seen in a Battlefield.
This mode will indeed mix elements of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. It will thus be perfectly possible to oppose a squad of German soldiers against an army of robot-dogs, and many other madnesses of this caliber. Not only will weapons and gadgets from all of these games be available to the community, but also vehicles, factions, and classes from each game.
Here are in details the elements with which the community will be able to have fun at the launch of Portal:
Classic cards:
- Battle of the Bulge (Battlefield 1942)
- El Alamein (Battlefield 1942)
- Port d'Arica (Battlefield : Bad Company 2)
- Valparaiso (Battlefield : Bad Company 2)
- Caspian Frontier (Battlefield 3)
- Canaux de Noshahr (Battlefield 3)
Weapons:
- More than 40 weapons from three theaters of war;
- M1 Garand, Panzerschreck, G3, M416 et plus;
- The Battlefield 2042 Total War arsenal is also included.
Vehicles:
- More than 40 vehicles from three theaters of war;
- The Spitfire and the B17 bomber make a comeback alongside modern vehicles like the Quad and the Little Bird;
- All-Out Warfare vehicles from Battlefield 2042 are also included.
Gadgets :
- Over 30 gadgets from three theaters of war;
- Recognition tools like the MAV and Radio Beacon will be available as gadgets, alongside the Defibrillator and EOD Robot;
- Battlefield 2042 gadgets are also included.
Armies:
- Factions of yesteryear will make a comeback in Battlefield Portal, allowing you to play with seven different armies from past games as well as Specialists from Battlefield 2042;
- Armies like the United Kingdom, United States and Germany from 1942, but also the United States and Russia from Bad Company 2 will appear exclusively in Battlefield Portal.
Soldiers
- Along with the return of factions to Battlefield Portal will also come the return of the soldier archetypes you know from their original games. For example, the Assault, Engineer, Support, and Scout roles from Battlefield 3 will make a comeback in Battlefield Portal.
Available at the same time as Battlefield 2042, as a reminder on October 22, 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Portal will of course include the new elements added by this new opus of the license. It will thus benefit from the injections of content to come over time, in the same way as the basic game.
