Battlefield 2042 loses its lead designer

In an e-mail addressed to the team in charge of the development of Battlefield 2042, Fawzi Mesmar, chief designer, announced his departure, a week after the release of the game.

Bad news spotted by our colleagues at Video Games Chronicle, while the man held this position at DICE on the Battlefield and Star Wars: Battlefront franchises since 2019.

Departures are linked in the Electronic Arts stables. Just yesterday, we learned that Dragon Age 4, not expected before 2023, lost its creative director. Today, it's the turn of a member of the Battlefield 2042 team to announce his departure. Before joining DICE, Fawzi Mesmar held the position of director at the King studio (Candy Crush).

This departure was notified to the Swedish studio via an e-mail indicating: “It was a real pleasure to serve within the best design team in the galaxy. The work you do continues to inspire me every day. Thank you for having believed a little in me, I hope not to have disappointed you”.

The reason is however a priori not linked to the situation of the new DICE FPS, victim of a massive review-bombing and in the process of patching the many problems present at its launch. Fawzi Mesmar indeed continues his e-mail by specifying: "I received an offer which I could not refuse within another company [also in Stockholm] which had the generosity to wait for the release of Battlefield 2042 It was extremely important for me to be there with the team for this historic milestone”.

A representative of Electronic Arts confirmed his departure by wishing him a good continuation in his career, according to VGC. A replacement for his vacancy from November 26 has yet to be named.
