Waiting for the still distant and mysterious Assassin's creed infinity, Ubisoft would still have a card up its sleeve for its franchise action-adventure (then action-RPG) worship.

In any case, this is indicated by the very well informed Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, according to sources close to the Spanish giant.

A very secret blade

Ubisoft is far from done with the Assassin's Creed franchise. As Valhalla plans to welcome its share of content for the second consecutive year, including the “Dawn of Ragnarök” expansion, a new episode in the history of the Assassins is emerging from the shadows.

For the time being, we know little about this next game which bears the code name Rift and would initially be an extension of Valhalla, before going into standalone format. This new opus should feature Basim as the protagonist, the tortuous character who precisely accompanied Eivor in Valhalla.

Rift should also bring great emphasis to infiltration and offer a much smaller playground, a priori in Baghdad, than the mythological trilogy initiated by Origins. A point that could reassure some fans, as the open worlds of Odyssey and Valhalla were intimidating (discouraging?) by their gigantism.

According to Jason Schreier's sources, this new opus would be expected sometime this year or at the latest in 2023. Anyway, it will be released long before the intriguing Infinity, of which we know even less than for Rift . We bet that this new episode will be planned for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

While waiting for an official announcement, we will hide in the crowd, on the lookout, our secret blade ready to swoop down on new information.
