The announcement of takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft shook up the entire video game industry and particularly the main competitors of the American manufacturer. Today, all eyes are on a hypothetical reaction from Sony…

In recent years, PlayStation has forged many very lucrative partnerships with Activision Blizzard. Whether on Diablo III, Destiny, Crash Bandicoot, and Call of Duty DLC time-exclusive, the two groups have been walking hand-in-hand for a long time. Alas, this idyll is doomed to end since the publisher should pass under the bosom of Xbox next year.

A good hangover

The Wall Street Journal recently spoke with a Sony spokesperson and asked about the Activision Blizzard takeover. The employee of the Japanese firm remained quite evasive on the subject but still mentioned the fact that "We expect Microsoft to respect contractual agreements by continuing to guarantee that Activision games remain cross-platform".

As we have seen recently in the ranking unveiled by Sony, the Call of Duty license is among the most popular on PS5 as on PS4. If ever the FPS saga were to become exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, it would represent a significant shortfall for PlayStation. Fortunately, Microsoft was initially reassuring by explaining that all Activision Blizzard games will not be exclusive to its machines. Only time will tell if these words are correct.
