In September 2021, Sony formalized the acquisition of Firesprite, thus succeeding the acquisitions of Housemarque (return) and Nixxes Software. But, while we didn't know until now what the studio could be working on, a job offer comes to put an end to the mystery...
Founded in 2012 and located in Liverpool, Firesprite had already multiplied collaborations with Sony before officially joining the PlayStation Studios family. Having since worked on titles such as The Playroom, The Playroom VR or the mobile game Run Sackboy! Run! the studio will now be able to express itself through a more ambitious production, in which it will have total creative control.
Horrific turn for Firesprite
It was via a job offer published on the studio's official website and relayed here by VGC that we discovered that Firesprite was looking for a narrative director. Its goal is to develop a narrative-driven horror/adventure AAA, likely destined for the PS5. But that's not all, since it is also mentioned that the title will run under an engine that we will hear more and more about in the coming months, namely the Unreal Engine 5.
Anyway, the Narrative Director will have the mission, as the title suggests, to carry out the narration of the project. He will also have to “consider the universe and the lore of the game”, as mentioned in the job offer. New IP? Continuation of an already established license? We will have to wait a little longer before we find out. One thing is certain, the orientation of the project confirms recent statements from Sony, which affirmed that it would not abandon narrative single-player games.
As a reminder, Firesprite is also at work, in collaboration with the Guerrilla teams, on Horizon: Call of the Mountain for the PSVR 2.
