Just over 30 years ago, many of us restarted Super Mario Bros. from the start after a game over.

But in reality, there was a way that could not be more official to start over from the last world visited...

Super Mario Bros, a well (well) hidden secret

A little over 30 years ago, like me no doubt, you played Super Mario Bros on the NES. Like me no doubt, you discovered the warp zones and were forced to start the game from the beginning, after this last life lost even before the final confrontation against the vile Bowser. Did you know that there was a technique to avoid having to restart your game from level 1-1?

No hacking, improbable manipulation or other 2.0 version of any ROM to download here, since the functionality is present directly in your vintage Super Mario Bros cartridge, which perhaps cohabited with a certain Duck Hunt by the way.

Thus, many are still unaware today that Super Mario Bros did not actually require the game to be restarted from the beginning after a game over. A simple manipulation made it possible to start over at the start of the last world visited, and it seems that only a few “chosen ones” were aware of this technique, as it seems “new” today for many players.

" But how ?? you will tell me. Well for that, you simply have to press the A key during the game over screen, wait for the title screen to appear, then press the Start key, while continuing to hold the A key (we can also wait for the title screen before pressing the A key, then Start). From then on, the magic happens, and the game immediately restarts at the beginning of the last world visited. Video proof above.

Stunning, right?
